My Son Sanctuary, the ancient religious centre of the Champa kingdom and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, lies an easy morning's drive from Hoi An. With a local English-speaking guide you have about two hours among its centuries-old temples, ending with a traditional Apsara dance.
The rest of the morning is slow and local: rice paper making at a village house, lunch with cold herbal tea at another, and then, instead of the road, a boat trip back to Hoi An on the Thu Bon, the largest river in Central Vietnam.
