Farming & Fishing Life by Bike – Hoi An Countryside Tour

  • Hoi An
  • Tagesausflug
  • Kleingruppe
  • Abholung vom Hotel

Cycle out of Hoi An to plough a rice paddy with a water buffalo, plant seedlings at Tra Que, paddle a basket boat among coconut palms with local fishermen, and finish with a Vietnamese lunch in a local house.

This is a close-up morning with the farming and fishing families who live just outside Hoi An.

You set off by bicycle along quiet country roads, seeing rural Vietnam as it really is, and stop at Tra Que Vegetable Village to learn traditional farming. Then you step into the flooded rice fields: your guide explains how rice is grown from planting to harvest, and you take a turn ploughing with a water buffalo and transplanting young seedlings.

After that, a round bamboo basket boat – the 'thúng chai' – carries you along coconut-palm waterways to meet local fishermen and hear how the American War touched this area. Lunch is in a local house before you cycle back to your hotel.

Momente, die bleiben

  • Behind the buffalo

The mud is warm, the buffalo knows the way better than you do, and the furrow you leave behind is gloriously crooked.

  • Seedling by seedling

Bent over the flooded paddy, pressing young rice plants into the mud one by one, you understand why every grain counts here.

  • Among the palms

Spinning gently in a round basket boat between the coconut palms, the fishermen's stories turn to the war years this quiet water has seen.
