Sapa 2 Days 1 Night: Cat Cat and Lao Chai – Ta Van Trek (Hotel)

Two days in Sapa with a night in a town hotel of your chosen class: Cat Cat village on day 1, then the Lao Chai – Ta Van valley trek or Ham Rong mountain on day 2. A land tour starting in Sapa: transport Hanoi – Sapa – Hanoi is not included.

The first afternoon is spent in Cat Cat, the H'mong village just below Sapa town, with its waterfall and the hydroelectric plant the French built in the early 20th century. Dinner, then a night in Sapa town in the hotel class you choose, from a 3-star to a 5-star.

On the second day you pick your route. The classic choice is the trek through the Muong Hoa valley: Y Linh Ho, the rice terraces along the stream, Lao Chai and Ta Van, home to the Black H'mong, Dzao and Dzay. Or stay close to town and climb Ham Rong mountain for the view over Sapa.

A local English-speaking guide, three main meals and a snack, and the sightseeing tickets are all included.

    1日目 · Village life

    Day 1: Arrive in Sapa – Cat Cat village

    Cat Cat village waterwheel huts and stream in Sapa

    13:00–13:30: your guide meets you at the Sapa bus station (guests on the morning bus from Hanoi arrive about now) and takes you to the hotel for lunch and check-in.

    14:00–14:30: Walk with your guide to Cat Cat, a village of the H'mong, and learn about the customs and way of life of the people who live there. Visit Cat Cat waterfall and the hydroelectric plant built by the French in the early 20th century, with time to enjoy the place and take souvenir photos.

    19:00: dinner at a restaurant. Overnight at your hotel in Sapa town.

    2日目 · Rice terraces

    Day 2: Lao Chai – Ta Van trek or Ham Rong

    Route 2, Cat Cat – Lao Chai – Ta Van: 08:00–08:30, after breakfast your guide picks you up at the hotel. Trek to Y Linh Ho village, then hike through the rice terraces along the Muong Hoa stream to Lao Chai, a village of the Black H'mong, with the spectacular Hoang Lien Son range all around. Pass tribal villages including Lao Chai and Ta Van, home to the Black H'mong, Dzao and Dzay peoples. 13:00: lunch in Ta Van village and a rest. 14:00–14:30: back to Sapa town by car. 15:00–15:30: end of the tour; guests with a bus ticket board the bus back to Hanoi.

    Route 1, Cat Cat – Ham Rong: after breakfast, spend the day on Ham Rong instead of the valley trek. Ham Rong mountain rises right behind Sapa town; its paths climb through gardens and rock formations to views over the town and the valleys around it.

Which route should I choose?

Route 2 (Cat Cat – Lao Chai – Ta Van) is a trek through the rice terraces of the Muong Hoa valley and its villages. Route 1 (Cat Cat – Ham Rong) stays close to Sapa town with the view from Ham Rong mountain. Both cost the same.

Which hotels can I choose?

3-star Grand Flamant Sapa or similar (from 1,176,000 VND), 4-star My Boutique (1,610,000 VND), 4-star Sapa Charm, Sapa Canvas or similar (2,170,000 VND), or 5-star Sapa KK, Paos Sapa or similar (2,940,000 VND) per person sharing. For 4–5 star hotels the price depends on the room class available, so we confirm before booking.

What is included?

One hotel night in Sapa town (2–3 people per room), 3 main meals and 1 snack, a local English-speaking guide in Sapa and the sightseeing tickets on the program. Drinks with meals are not included.

Is transport from Hanoi included?

No. This is a land tour that starts in Sapa, so the trip Hanoi – Sapa – Hanoi is not included. We can book a round-trip bus ticket for you: sleeper bus from 280,000 VND, cabin bus from 490,000 VND and Limousine (Dcar) from 532,000 VND per person. For the train, ask us and we will check.

How much do children pay?

Children aged 1–4 go free when sharing transport and a bed with their parents (parents pay any extra costs). Children aged 5–8 pay 75% of the tour price, with their own meals and sharing a bed with their parents. From 9 years old the adult price applies. Bus tickets are charged at the adult price for every age.

Are prices different on public holidays?

Yes, tour prices are 40% higher on New Year (31/12 – 02/01), Lunar New Year (from the 28th of the last lunar month to the end of the 4th day of Tết), 30/4 – 1/5, Hung Kings Commemoration (29/04) and 2/9.

Can I add Fansipan?

Yes. Adding Fansipan costs 1,400,000 VND per person and covers the Fansipan cable car and the transfer. The Muong Hoa train and the summit train tickets (both ways) are not included.
